Breaking News: JCICS shutting down!

The Joint Council on International Childrens Services is closing up shop. No details yet.

I had heard from an inside source this morning that a BIG announcement regarding AdoptionLand would be made today. I expected the news to be that the long-rumored merger of JCICS and the National Council for Adoption was imminent, especially since the joint JCICS-NCFA Children First conference was meeting today. Joint Council on International Children’s Services: Racist ad draw ire of adoptees and adoptive parents

Taking time off from its white man’s burden of scooping  kids from developing countries into the arms of America’s desperate and middle class (lately through the CHIFF Act), the Joint Council on International Children’s Services   (JCICS)  will hold a benefit Tuesday to raise money for itself. Just in time for Trick or Treat, JCICS has  invited us to the fun.   All we need to do is hop a train or plane to The Big Apple and drop ourselves and our spare change off at Battery Park’s  PJ Clark’s. We’ll get free treats for our trouble. Until this moment I was unaware that trick or treaters  pay for their free candy. Note to self: stock up on Snickers. The idea of JCICS panhandling  kinda creeps me out.  Last year JCICS’s 990 says the non-profit was bringing in solid cash. I assume not by spare changing on K Street.  At least not with a tin can. I’d not be writing about this kinda-creepy event, or even know about it,  if JCICS  hadn’t jumped the shark and decided to promote its dollar-harvesting op on Facebook  with a picture of some of its fresh produce– international adoptees– dressed up in racial and Continue Reading →

Some Thoughts on the "Angry Adoptee:" Gazillion Adoptees v JCIC$

I’ve been away for more than a month.  I’ve lost all track of time.  No matter. April was the worse month of my entire life. Just when you think things get any more abysmal, the crevice opens deeper.  Maybe I’ll write about it; maybe not.  I can make it adoption related to make it palpable. I’m trying to get back to “normal” whatever that is. Last we heard from our friend Kevin Ost-Vollmers,in the Land of a Gazillion Adoptees, he was engaged in a dialogue with the Congressional Coalition.  That was ” bad” enough, but it gets worse.  It must be something about April. Land of a Gaiilion Adoptees: Kevin and Bert getting ready to kick it On April18, Kevin and  “Rockstar Vietnamese adoptee” Bert  Ballard, Assistant Professor of Communications at Pepperdine University, went to New York to give a presentation, Adoptees and Agencies:  Undiscovered Allies or Estranged Bedfellows,  before a JCIC$ symposium–to educate  (for want of a better word) this specific set of adoptacrats about adoptees.   JCIC$ is as interested in the international post-production product it markets as it is in the proposition that  9/11 was an inside job.How these bastard gods got the password to the sanctum Continue Reading →

AdoptaLeaks: Pound Pup Scores JCICS Board Minutes

I haven’t had a chance to read these yet, but Niels Hoogeveen at Pound Pup Legacy has made a real score: the Minutes of all JCICS board meetings June 17, 2005-August 26, 2009. As Niels points out, somebody forgot to shut the door. They were available through a members only page that… ummm… somebody left open. Roelle Post has written a follow-up on interesting notations on Romania. I’m sure many more comments will come. Watch it, Neils! Our national security thugs will be knocking on your door soon. They’re not Demons of Adoption for nothin‘ You are a True Bastard God! ADDENDA: March 16, 2011: I heard from Niels over the weekend. He wants to clarify that he did not score these documents himself. Pound Pup was informed of the JCISC security leak and it was simply uploaded to the PP page. I want to reiterate, though that Pound Pup is an absolute top-notch source for those of us researching adoption.

Demons of Adoption 2010: And the winner is…

DEMONS OF ADOPTION 2010 The votes are in. Your voice has been heard. Pound Pup Legacy is proud to announce the winner of its coveted Demons of Adoption 2010 Award: The Joint Council for International Childrens Services. (JCICS) In each case of widespread corruption in sending countries, JCICS has promoted an agenda to keep the gravy train running. Despite knowledge of child trafficking in countries like Romania, Guatemala, Peru and Vietnam, JCICS maintained the position that closing corrupt programs was not in the best interest of the child. As per item #1 of their own bullet list, this can be translated as: closing corrupt programs was not in the self-interest of the adoption service providers, forming the members of JCICS. In a neck-and-neck race, the runner up is: L-d-S Social Services It is also one of the least transparent agencies operating in the US. It is the only American adoption agency recognized as a church and as a result doesn’t have to file a financial statement with the IRS. The agency is notoriously secretive and little information about its workings reaches the outside world because they only provide services to members of the Mormon church. JCICS Attempts to Flood ‘Net and Russia with "Positive Adoption Stories"

This is cross-posted from my Nikto Ne Zabyt (Memoriam for Russian Adoptees Murdered and Abused by their Forever Families) blog Just like cockroaches under the sink, JCICS is all over the Internet today with its We are the Truth Petition and National Adoption Blogger Day–all meant to force Russia to shut up and to continue send their orphans to US Forever Homes–while, of course, decrying the Saveliev/Hansen case as an “rare” exception., not systemic rot. I was going to write about this, but Baby Love Child has already done it (and- shameless plug– also promoted by Russian work): Russian adoptees & an “Adoption Blogger Day” Ah! How Special Today the Joint Council on International Children’s Services (JCICS) an adoption industry trade lobby here in the U.S. desires to clog social media with “positive adoption stories” in other words, adopter spam, (and no doubt grateful adoptee spam as well) culled from its member agencies’ adoptive parents files and email lists in a last ditch desperate attempt to try to stop Russia from ending American adoptions in the wake of the one way flight that took Artyem Saviliev from his “forever family” in the United States back to Russia. They’ve called for Continue Reading →

RUB-A-DUB-DUB: WACAP SCRUBBED FROM NCFA MEMBERSHIP PAGE

This is cross posted from my Nikto Ne Zabyt (Memoriam for Russian Adoptees Murdered and Abused by their Forever Families) blog. Well, this is interesting! In yesterday’s entry on the World Association for Children and Parents involvement in the Artem Saveliev case, posted directly below this, I wrote that WACAP is a member of the adoption trade association the National Council for Adoption. NCFA’s membership list, I noted, was not online when I checked right before posting. Actually, I was pretty sure I’d seen the roster a couple days earlier when NCFA’s new webpage was launched. It turns out I was right. The membership roster was online. THEN. And it is online. NOW. But not yesterday afternoon, when it appears that a NCFAnoid was busy scrubbing the site clean of WACAP membership. Super sleuth and longtime NCFA watcher JoAnne Swanson took screen shots of the NCFA Washington State roster before and after the cleansing. (Click on the images below to make them larger). And if you don’t believe me, go to today’s NCFA membership site. BEFORE AFTER This doesn’t mean that WACAP (so far) is gone from NCFA, but that NCFA has sent if off the island to distance itself Continue Reading →

ROGUES GALLERY: A HANDY GUIDE TO ADOPTION CORRUPTION AMERICAN STYLE

RUN, DON’T WALK RIGHT NOW! Jamie Marsh has just blown the door off the whole JCICS/NCFA/FOA outhouse with his new blog Focus on Adoption: A Rogues Gallery. If you’re looking for a handy guide to adoption corruption that even boggles my mind, this is it. The war is on! There are a few new names here for me, so I know many of you won’t be familiar with all the players either. But don’t let that hold you back. There is much to read, re-read and re-re-read , digest, and read some more (including plenty of links and documentation): mendacity, incestuous agency and personnel relationships, RICO, corruption, lies. It’s better than Days of Our Lives. If ever there is reason to gut Adoption American Style, this is it. After reading Rogues Gallery you’ll never have to wonder again why they want records sealed. Mr. DiFilipo, Mr Atwood and the gang at Focus on Adoption are gonna wake up Friday morning with Headache Number 2008. And no amount of Excedrin will blot it out. I wonder how they’ll to spin it.
