OK I can’t help it. I’m happy. I’m finally online full speed again, and Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich was arrested earlier today on federal corruption charges. Can life get much better! Here’s a snip from CNN: Federal officers took Blagojevich and his chief of staff, John Harris — also arrested on corruption charges — into custody at around 6:30 a.m. (7:30 a.m. ET) without incident, FBI spokesman Ross Rice told CNN. Each was charged with a count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and a count of solicitation of bribery, authorities said. The government says the two were “conspiring to obtain personal financial benefits” for the Illinois governor by leveraging his sole authority to appoint a U.S. senator to replace Obama… …The government also accuses Blagojevich and Harris of threatening to withhold state assistance to the Tribune Company — the company that owns the Chicago Tribune — in connection with the sale of Wrigley Field baseball stadium. The company also owns the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field. In exchange for assistance, the governor and his chief of staff wanted the newspaper to fire Chicago Tribune editorial board members who were sharply critical of the governor, the government said. For the third year running California Governor Arnold Schwarznegger has vetoed a bill that would expand the age at which babies can be legally dumped under the state’s “Safe Surrender” law. AB 2262 would have extended the age from from 3 to 7 days. Here is the governor’s veto message BILL NUMBER: AB 2262VETOED DATE: 09/30/2008 To the Members of the California General Assembly:I am returning Assembly Bill 2262 without my signature. I have vetoed similar measures twice before and there is no new data or information to support a change in my position. California’s Safe Surrender Law is carefully crafted to provide an emergency alternative to a woman in crisis while also preserving the fundamental rights of the child. "A LITTLE HAYWIRE:" BABY DUMP PUSHER TRIVIALIZES ABANDONERS AND ABANDONMENT

A few days ago a newborn was left illegally (that is, outside of government-preferred “legal” baby dump specs) on a church stoop in Federal Way, Washington. The unnamed mother has since turned herself in, and as of this writing, no charges have been filed. The Seattle Times asked Kathy Satow of the Pekin, Indiana-based Newborn Lifeline Network about women who abandon their newborns. Here is her response: Satow said that many people assume young mothers who abandon their babies are teens from underprivileged backgrounds, but she said that’s not usually the case. Instead, she said, they typically are 21- to 24-year-old college students who go “a little haywire” out on their own for the first time, she said. They “don’t want to test their security net” — namely their own parents — and so go into crisis once they deliver. So the complex issues surrounding nearly all newborn abandonment: fear, social isolation, hidden pregnancy, pregnancy denial, dangerous delivery, poverty, inaccessibilty of social services, untreated mental illness, substance abuse, and domestic violence have morphed into a simple college girl problem of “going a little haywire” 500 miles away from home for the first time. Maybe that makes baby dumping more marketable.

The casualties pile up in Nebraska. According to Nebraska DHHS figures released a couple days ago, on September 24, the same day that 9 siblings were dumped at Creighton Medical Center, an 11 year old boy was kicked to the curb in “Burt/Douglas County” and a news report indicates another boy, 15, was dropped off in Omaha (video). On Sept. 22, an 18 year old “safe havened” himself at a Grand Island hospital. That answers one question some of us had! DHHS apparently won’t count the boy left with the police on September 1, since police stations are not “safe haven” drop-off points.Here’s the tally to date: September 1: Male 14–left by mother at Omaha police station. Currently in foster care. September 13: Male 11–left by grandmother–another report says mother–at Immanuel Medical Center, Omaha; currently in foster care and partial hospitalization. September 13: Male 15–left by guardian aunt at Bryant Medical Center West, Lincoln. September 20: Pregnant female 13 left by mother at Immanuel Medical Center, Omaha. Returned to mother–see below. WARNING AUSTRALIA: SAFE HAVENS COMNG YOUR WAY?

Tasmanian senator Helen Polley has written to federal and state-attorney generals pushing no-questions asked, anonymous baby dumping throughout the country. The Australian press reports that Polley would designate police stations and community centers as drop-off points Incredibly Polley says, (emphasis mine) “Safe Havens secure a baby’s physical well-being and offer support to their mother.” Who’s her target group?: “These new parents may be scared, may have financial concerns or they may have a mental illness.” Nothing like recruiting the poor and incompetent.

Oh look! The message on Ms. Morrisey’s MySpace page has changed again. Baby Safe Haven New England You Have To Wonder What’s Up When some Moron Keeps Blogging DOWN What’s on this Page.. Temporarily On Private Due To Busy Bodys That Have Nothing Better To Do! What does “blogging DOWN” mean?This grammatically and spelling challenged statement is rich coming from a SAHM with no previous interest in adoption, who apparently has had nothing better to do with herself for the last five years than busybody around adoption and undermine the identity rights of current and future adoptees through her and hubby’s “Baby Safe Haven” dog and pony show. Why does Ms. Morrisey frequently shut down her MySpace page, post bizarre messages on her profile about the closing, (aimed at me, apparently, though blogger Adopted Jane no doubt is also a public menace) and periodically keep the ever-curious public away from her own statement about her arrest? Jean Morrisey has once again locked her MySpace page. My immense network of international internet spies informed me earlier this evening that the new private profile was tagged: Baby Safe Haven New England This Page Is Closed Due To Privacy Invasion By An Extremest Group!!!! That must refer to Bastardette and Adoptee Jane. No doubt reporter Ian Murphy, his editor, and the Lexington Police Department will soon be added to this vast internet privacy- invading conspiracy. As of this writing the private profile tag reads: Baby Safe Haven New England Police Reports ARE NOT Public Information Concerning Minors Medical Information… Wrong Again Bastardette!!! Since I have never posted, nor have even attempted to post, on the Baby Safe Haven New England MySpace page or any Morrisey space (why would I?) this must confuse Ms. Morrisey’s My Space friends. Who is Bastardette and why is Jean saying these things to her? But since the page is privatized, maybe she’s blogging about me and they know all? I really like to let people speak in their own words The truth is oh-so more interesting than fantasy or what we want to believe. Today, Jean Morrisey’s MySpace page was unlocked and back to normal–the vulgar threat to the press removed. But never fear The threat has been replaced by a blog where Ms, Morrisey explains what happened at her home on June 4, and takes the local media to task. Apparently, the editor isn’t real impressed with BSH or them. He must be removed! BTW, police report are public information. Go here for the latest.
