COMPUTER HELL

I am currently in the midst of computer hell. My laptop had a relapse after Klutzy Kat doused it with Earl Grey. My desktop has been been taken over by Satan: sticking cursor, frozen screen, and this morning, just for fun, backmasking. The problem should be cured in a couple days. I am trying to get a couple blogs out on Bastardette and Children of the Corn, but it’s taking longer than it should. In the meantime, Sabina is going an incredible job of CoC and I urge you to read her latest. Note that the stats on Nebraska dumps are behind due to Computer Hell. I plan to fixt that today unless something else happens.

NEW BLOG! CHILDREN OF THE CORN: REPORTING, THEORY, AND OPINION ON LEGALIZED CHILD DUMPING IN NEBRASKA

Lauren Sabina Kneisly (Baby Love Child) and Bastardette are happy to announce the posting of our new blog: Children of the Corn: Reporting, Theory, and Opinion on Legalized Child Dumping in Nebraska. Since we were both writing so much on the topic of Nebraska child dumping law, LB 157, we decided it would be a good idea to put our work together in an easy-to-access format. The blog is a repository of our Nebraska writing, in chronological order, since the first “legal” abandonment took place in September. It is intended as a resource for those researching so-called “safe haven” or “Baby Moses” laws, Nebraska LB 157 , adoptee rights activists, adoption reformers, child welfare advocates, bastards, legislators, the media, and those who are just plain disgusted. We may occasionally add the work of another blogger or scholar. Over the next week or so we add more links and other resources. We will continue to post our Nebraska blogs on our individual blogs as well. CHILDREN OF THE CORN http://cornkids.blogspot.com please distribute freely!

ELEVEN ELEVEN ELEVEN 1918

IN FLANDERS FIELDS In Flanders fields the poppies blowBetween the crosses, row on row,That mark our place; and in the skyThe larks, still bravely singing, flyScarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days agoWe lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,Loved, and were loved, and now we lieIn Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe:To you from failing hands we throwThe torch; be yours to hold it high.If ye break faith with us who dieWe shall not sleep, though poppies growIn Flanders fields. — Lt.-Col. John McCrae

NEBRASKA SAFE HAVEN: HERDING CATS

Herding cats! That’s what the Nebraska Big Kid Dump has turned in to. Just a few minutes ago, Nebraska HHS announced that a 15-year old girl was dumped off at Creighton University MC. There are no details yet, and news reports don’t say any more than the state-issued press release here. I intended to blog today about the Georgia case. There’s some pretty amazing reporting on it in the Atlanta media. Hopefully, that will go up later today. And honestly, I’d like to write about other things, but this it’s important to get this stuff out. Everything we said would happen has come home to roost.

ANNOUNCEMENT: HATE NOT WELCOME HERE

The Daily Bastardette has always supported free speech and spirited discussion. The Daily Bastardette does not support hate, personal attacks, and libelous accusations. I have removed two comments posted within the last 24 hours by Improper Adoptee and am banning her posting here–ever. These types of comments are unacceptable in civil discussion, even heated civil discussion. They are harmful to individuals, bastard integrity, and the adoptee rights movement. This is my blog. IA has her own blog. She can articulate her opinions and toss out her insults there. As a precautionary measure, I also removed Kevan’s last comment, only because he quoted IA’s salacious remarks. Kevan is a friend and is always welcome here. I apologize for letting this go as far as it has. And I especially apologize to long-time friends who have been attacked here in the last day. Finally, several months ago I posted this warning at the top of the blog. Bastardette promotes and supports free speech and spirited discussion. Obscenity and spurious personal attacks on other posters, however, will not be tolerated. Offending comments will be removed. Posters who continue to post inappropriate messages will be banned. This is not meant to dissuade controversy or Continue Reading →

LUDDITE BACK AT WORK

This is pathetic. I went away for the weekend, and when I returned we were hit by the tail-end of Hurricane Ike. The power went out twice and the third time it stayed out–until last night. Oh the horror! No Internet! No carping, kvetching. No BS. No Obama and McCain. No AIG. No Seattle Mutual. No Lehman Brothers. No Iraq and Iran. No Sarah Palin and all her dysfunctional other Palins. (OH NO!) And best of all…no adoption, and no wacky Nebraska ill-behaved adolescent dumps. The Bad Cats, resentful, were forced to entertain themselves chasing grasshoppers and snooping through my neighbor’s porch since they had no keyboard to dither across, no blogs to erase. By sunlight I read Mistress of the Vatican and by candlelight The Ellery Queen Omnibus. And I cleaned. Walking through my neighborhood last night, candles flickering in windows, folks cooking outdoor, reading aloud to each other (something that sounded peculiarly Roger de Coverleyish)… before the return of modernity… Life was genuine. Authentic. Life was not AdoptionLand.

COMMUNISM COLLAPSES. LENINGRAD AUGUST 19, 1991

WARNING: This has nothing to with adoption. Today is the 17th anniversary of the collapse of the Soviet Union–the failed coup. I began visiting the Soviet Union in 1988. I returned in 1989, and twice in 1990. In 1991 I had my first extended visit. That year I lived at Plekhanova, the international student hostel at the Herzen Institute, located just off Nevsky behind Kazansky Sabor Ostensibly, I was there to study Russian. Wiithin less than 24 hours of my arrival my good intentions were out the window. My time was taken up with shopping, sitting in the bar, Soier, clubbing, riding the metro, tattoos partying all night, …and as it turned out, overthrowing the government. Sort of. Below are some pictures from that time. The first batch are my Plekhonova homies: Soier, Sveta, Pasha, Dima, Viktor, Alex, Valera, Radina Yan, Vika, Mary, Karin, and Vladek. The second batch are of the Leningrad “resistance.” Let’s just say we weren’t Moscow! Following the pictures are two of my favorite Russian music videos: Zveri (Animals) by Tequillajazz and Sweet Home Alabama by The Leningrad Cowboys & The Red Army Choir. MORE BLOGGER PROBLEMS

It never stops! Now Blogger is disappearing comments! One of my entries yesterday had 4 comments. This morning only the first comment was there. I posted 2 comments on that entry about the problem, and they have not shown up. Strangely the original four comments are now there. If you have posted here and the comment goes away or never shows up, blame it on Blogger. Hopefully, this will be fixed soon.
