ADOPTABLOGS TO RING IN THE NEW YEAR

I’m working on a couple things, but in the meantime, here’s some new blog entries from our partners in crime you might find interesting: Musings of the Lame. Claud is back Yes, that’s right! Our beloved Claud has returned to the keyboard after a way too-long hiatus. Bonus: we can now watch at our leisure Montel’s how can-I-get-me-a-baybee meltdown moment with Claud. It’s right up there with the adoptaTV classics, The Dr. Laura Love Fest with Ron Morgan, Troy Dunn and Bill Pierce and the Brian Willilams Show with Joe Soll driving Bill Pierce off the set of a live broadcast. “Tell the truth, Bill! Tell the truth!” Unfortunately, the latter two are no longer on line, though I have hard copy transcript of the Bill’s humiliation. Mia’s Saving Grace. Christopher Durang wrote a neat little one act, The Actor’s Nightmare. Mia has posted her own special adoptee nightmare, simply called, Nightmare.” It starts: The ancient office chair I am sitting on is hard and uncomfortable. I keep switching positions uncomfortably. The woman sitting behind the desk has a stoic and drawn look to her face. She is frowning intently and her eyes seem to be boring holes so deep Continue Reading →

HAPPY NEW YEAR–S NOVYM GODOM!

There’s nothing like ringing in the new year with the classic Soviet New Year’s film The Carnival Night. Made in 1956, the film is shown each year at New Year’s on Russian television. For the uneducated (which is about everybody west of the Baltic Sea) here is a synopsis of this great film: It is the New Year’s Eve and the employees of an Economics Institute are ready with their annual New Year’s entertainment program. It includes a lot of dancing, singing, and even magic tricks. Suddenly, an announcement is made that a new director has been elected and that he is arriving shortly. Comrade Ogurtsov arrives in time to review and disapprove of the scheduled entertainment. To him, holiday fun has a different meaning. He imagines speakers reading annual reports to show the Institute’s progress over the year, and, perhaps, a bit of serious music, something from the Classics, played by the Veterans’ Orchestra. Obviously, no one wants to change the program a few hours before the show, much less to replace it with something so boring! Now everyone has to team up in order to prevent Ogurtsov from getting to the stage. As some of them trap Ogurtsov Continue Reading →

But the darkness pulls in everything; shapes and fires, animals and myself, how easily it gathers them!— powers and people— and it is possible a great energy is moving near me. I have faith in nights.”– Rainer Maria Rilke, On Darkness

ITALY: RIGHT TO THE INTERNET IS A UNIVERSAL RIGHT! BUT WHAT ABOUT ADOPTEES?

From yesterday’s Network World: Venice provides free Internet access to newborns Venice will become the first city in the world to provide newborn residents with free Internet access, a spokeswoman for the city council said Friday. Newborns will receive a user ID and password entitling them to free Internet access at the same time as they get their birth certificate, the spokeswoman said. “The resident’s new digital identity will give free access to the Web, because we consider that’s an important universal right,” said Michele Vianello, Venice’s deputy mayor, who has responsibility for automation processes. “Free access to the Internet is an important universal right!” Who knew? But, what if the newborn is adopted? Will their user IDs and passwords be confiscated by the government along with their original birth certificates? Will they get new government-issued fake IDs and passwords? Will fake IDs and passwords be accepted by cranky websites or will a “you are not authorized to access this site” beam back at them? What about babies born under Italy’s traditional anonymous hospital birth under X scheme or spun into the country’s growing high-tech ruota movement (here, and here)? Will they have the right to Internet access or will Continue Reading →

HERE COMES KRAMPUS!

He sees you when you’re sleeping, He knows when you’re awake,He knows if you’ve been bad or good,So be good for goodness sake! Coming on the heels of National Adoption Month, we have December 5–St. Nicholas Eve. And you know what that means! KRAMPUS! Krampus is Santa’s friend. In this case his driver. He is what happens to bad little bastards and adoptees who refuse to roll over and appreciate the previous month dedicated to us. Don’t expect any records to be opened in December. Not with Krampus around. Rather than reinvent the wheel, you can read about him here and here. Here’s a collection of Krampus postcards: And here’s another Kampus music video. I like the last shot. It reminds me of those Georgia Tann Christmas specials.
