If James Dobson and NCFA confused you the other day, then the latest American Life League Report’s, “Pill Goggles,” will send you straight into full-blown dementia.
According to ALL “reporter” Michael Hitchborn, oral contraceptives can “disrupt a woman’s natural abilities to select the perfect mate.” At first I thought this meant that use of “The Pill” (whackjobs love archaic terms) just encourages women to hook up with any appetizing stray male she encounters in a public bathroom without much chance of a Baby Bumble popping out 9 months later. Of course, that’s not what Mr. Hitchborn is scolding us about–at least not in this segment.
It’s deeper than that. It’s genes.

Hitchborn explains that a new study, out of the University of Liverpool on histocompatabity complex (HMC), something that enables “opposites to attract” through “subtle smells” suggests that “The Pill” can alter the female olfactory sense causing women to be attracted to men with non-complimentary HMC genes. That is, women on “The Pill” seek out genetically compatible men, not their genetic desirable opposites. This unfortunate mismatch made under the heady influence of “The Pill” inhibits the creation of babies with stronger immune systems and can lead to miscarriage, infertility… and the breakdown of relationships when women go off The Pill and come to their senses about Mr. Wonderful.
With a straight face, Hitchborn informs us that the Liverpool study was performed on about 100 women who sniffed the unwashed t-shirts of 100 men. At least American taxpayers weren’t dunned for this fetish study.
Hitchborn ends his lecture:
As if women really needed any other reason to stay as far away from the pill as possible, not only does The Pill kill babies and cause serious health problems, it could doom relationships as well.
We recognize that the practice of contraception violates the principles of Natural Law which are understandable by the use of reason alone. We endorse the consistent Catholic teachings on this subject and specifically cite Pope John Paul II’s definition of these differences in (Section 32):
When couples, by means of recourse to contraception, separate these two meanings [the unitive and procreative purposes of the marriage act] that God the creator has inscribed in the being of man and woman and in the dynamism of their sexual communion, they act as “arbiters” of the divine plan and they “manipulate” and degrade human sexuality and with it themselves and their married partner by altering its value of “total” self-giving. Thus the innate language that expresses the total reciprocal self-giving of husband and wife is overlaid, through contraception, by an objectively contradictory language, namely, that of not giving oneself totally to the other. This leads not only to a positive refusal to be open to life, but also to a falsification of the inner truth of conjugal love, which is called upon to give itself in personal totality.
In 1996, as part of its mission to restore prudery and sexual order to the continental United States, The American Life League teamed up with the American Center for Law and Justice, the National Council for Adoption, The Tennessee Eagle Forum, the Christian Coalition of Tennessee, the Family Research Council and other bastard-hating diseputables, as a Doe v Sundquist amicus, in the unsuccessful attempt to overturn Tennessee’s semi-open records law. Regrettably, I don’t have a copy of its brief. It’s safe to assume, however, that ALL argued records access would hike abortion…and, no doubt cause women to gobble up ungodly amounts of Pills; thus snuffiing the American gene pool with stuffed-nosed bad decisions. Soon afterward, Brown’s teenage daughter brought forth a son with no husband, conceived while Judie was on the road bashing bastards and their moms. No adoption and sealed records for HER grandson! No secrets and shame for HER daughter! The unfortunate child gets paraded around ALL events as an abortion survivor, that is, as a child born after Roe. Someone should whip Dobson with a belt……being raised one, it amazes me how unearthy Christians really are-there are herbs for birth control-herbs. As in plants growing out of the ground-one prevents a fertilized egg from implanting in the womb, and one causes miscarriages, even if it is touched-that is why so many women centuries ago, before people knew what this herb did, lost their babies. So it looks like God already invented birth control……so many Christians are so full of crap on so many levels….and I am so sick of them on so many levels..,,
God also created the tree of knowledge of good and evil, leaving Adam and Eve specific instructions not to eat it’s fruit. Just because a thing exists does not mean it’s effects are good, or that the intended use of those effects are good. Apple seeds and peach pits contain cyanide … by Improper Adoptee’s logic, the fact that plants contain them naturally means they should be used on people, right?
Contraception and control over one’s own reproductivity IS logical and the law of the land. It is not the time for a few people who consider themselves morally superior to make the decisions on freedom of choice for the many. To those who are trying to force the no-choice and no-contraceptuion idea down our throats….we WILL fight you.
Oh, and Christian mythology has no place in the halls of our congress or controlling the judiciary.

Herbs don’t kill people? There are any number of poisonous substances in plants….medieval herbalists were as adept with poison as with healing. If you really have studied herbal medicine you know that the wrong dosage can be fatal, just as with conventional drugs. And some plant substances just cannot be ingested by humans at all without bad effect. I don’t “laugh at herbs.” I respect the powerful active substances in them, that can be used to cure or kill.

The feeling is mutual, Improper Adoptee:-) If my son were like you I would be running too. Thank God he is a sane, sensible, and skeptical guy with a great sense of humour. And he does prefer me to his adoptive mother whom he no longer communcates with at all, so I guess he does not feel the need to “run” from me, even though I am his birthmother. Actually we think alike in some ways….imagine that!

Too many studies are like that. Anyone can “prepare and engage in a study” and can make it bend any way they like. I can think of all the studies claiming that single (unwed) mothers are more likely to be “neglectful and abusive.” I think a truly unbiased study with a very large control group of both unmarried and married parents would show about an equal percentage. “Studies,” especially those done by special-interest groups, are sort of like scripture which can also be taken out of context and used to justify or “prove” a lot of things.
Wow! Not sure how this conversation deteriorated into the relative merits of plant properties, but it has been interesting. I am surprised to see that we concur on the insanity of this presentation. I just have this mental picture of a bunch of 30 somethings at a focus group passing around stinky tee shirts and seeing whose sweat they found the least repellent! Wow! What an image. They must have been paid BIG bucks to participate in that particular study!

Any number of herbs can be used for contraception and abortion. I’ve known people who have used both successfully.

Personally I don’t think the study itself is especially ridiculous (though the T-shirt sniffing is worthy of a larf) – just the conclusions that are being drawn from it by ‘interested’ parties like ALL who are only to happy to jump on anything that can be twisted to suit their own propagandizing purposes.
maryanne-I am perfectly aware that some herbs are dangerous. Buit face it, this whole planet is a boobytrap, and there are many ways one can die. It is called population control from a higher force. But even so called poisionous drugs like foxglove are made into pharm. drugs, like digalitis. And even some foods that have posionious leaves, like rubarb are still eaten. Herbs are proven safer, and it is America due to the money grubbing AMA that trashes herbs-in Germany only Hawthron is used for high blood pressure-the high blood pressure drugs here have shot points up to ten in alot of American people(and then they go buy Hawthorn…)The medical profession wants to treat us like we are 3 years old and can not take care of ourselves and our health so they can be billoniares. Their stupid drug commericals reflect that mentality every day. I am very very educated in herbs, and would never be stupid enough for example to suggest kava kava to someone with Parkinson’s, because kava kava lowers the dopamine level. Yes, we will most likely disagree on everything, mainly because you pick on me, but I am glad you and your son like cats. They are my favorite animal, and that is one thing we won’t trash each other over!

That information was the most detestable form of online abuse by a supposed ‘abused adoptee’ I’ve seen in all my life. There’s not one bit of good to come from that blog she runs after those posts about that other woman that clearly are fabricated. I admire most of the bloggers fighting to get our records open, because I can’t blog openly about my life stories, thus I rely on the strength of all of you, with exceptions here and there, such as this Improper. Blogging about adoption and the anguish it can afflict on some is one thing though and blogging about a person you don’t actually know is another. I should never do a search with a search engine and find a blog and then find such calumnious blogs. Improper Adoptee, please stop posting about others on blogs for adoption and adoptees, even your own. It’s disruptive aside from ruining your credibility, and it’s blatantly cyber-harassment.
