OHIO: A CHILD’S WAITING–ANOTHER UPDATE

I just got off the phone with the legal services office at Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. The June 16th A Child’s Waiting hearing (postponed from June 2) has been canceled. ACW, the Skank Sisters, and ODJFS have reached a “settlement agreement.” The person I spoke with said the paperwork is being processed and she didn’t know what the settlement entailed.

The hearing did not involve the Bennett case.

I think it is pretty safe to say that ACW isn’t the dead duck it should be. I suppose there are some sanctions, but what? I’ll reserve judgment on the whole thing until I can learn more. It seems clear though, that running an adoption agency out of business in Ohio is impossible.

When I hear something, I’ll let you know.

  1. Marley,
Thanks for following up on this. There are a lot of people reading here, including Stephanie’s family, who are shocked and horrified at the extent of the hold that this agency in particular and adoption in general seems to have on the judicial system.

What will happen to a society that deems motherhood a commodity and women and their infants as an exploitable resource? How can this explotation be backed up by the court system? Where is the compassion?

Stephanie graduated from High School the other day. Congratulations to her and her family for this benchmark in her life. I hope that before too much longer, maybe before college graduation, her baby girl is with her and no more watershed moments are lost to them both.

  2. This makes me want to cry. How wrong is it that this society will allow such overt and arrogant misdeeds and treat the mother-child bond like it is their domain rather than God’s/Nature’s?

Their is no national conscience, anymore. When the fundies gained power, that got thrown out like the baby with the bathwater.

  3. I don’t understand how ACW gets away with so much either, Sandy. But I can’t remember any adoption agency that has been kicked out of Ohio, though I think a couple foster care-only agencies that have recently been booted. ACW, of course, does both.

I’ll be checking the ODJFS website daily. I am pretty sure there will be something up there. It’s public record. If not in a reasonable amount of time (a week or so) I’ll file a record request.

There is nothing redeemable about ACW. There are to many “incidents.”

I’m glad to hear the Staphanie graduated from high school. The evil counselor remains no doubt.

How can those paps live with themselves? Shame shame shame on them. What will Evelyn say to them someday?

  4. Oops, I meant Stephanie!

We need to continue to pound ACW. Any agency that engenders the approbation of Bastard Nation, Origins-USA AND The National Council for Adoption needs kicked around.

  5. I don’t know, E. Let’s see what the settlement says first. It may be “confidential” (oh, the irony!) but there should be a statement or summary or something. I’ve found over the years that people tend to condemn themselves with heir own words and actions.

  6. M:

That’s entirely true. Give them enough rope…and they end up hanging themselves.

In the “Bitch Sisters” case, that should be really easy.

  7. There has been a new enfrcement action initiated against A Child’s Waiting, LLC as of Friday April 10, 2009. I have no more details than this.
