NANM/NAAM Day 12: Monica Kelsey and SHBB Inc Gets Drop-Kicked at Hamilton, Ohio Baby Box Opening

I will report more on this event in a couple of days. Things to deconstruct. But for now, I am laying this out as is.

Ohio baby abandonment box opponent Chris Hicks did a spectacular job of running SHBB Inc into the ground at the opening of the Hamilton, Ohio, box on Tuesday (November 11). Monica Kelsey, SHBB Inc CEO/founder, went bonkers when he attempted to ask her perfectly reasonable questions, and she shouted for “Security” to get him out of her way. What a wimp! According to her, asking perfectly reasonable questions is “harassment.” To make it worse, 1 local pol and the fire chief backed her,up, refusing to answer questions, though an amiable State Rep took the questions quite seriously and promised to look into things.

This video is probably the most important document we have exposing the underbelly of the SHBB movement.

Would Mrs Kelsey do this to MSM? Probably, I know one Ohio reporter whom she refuses to speak to, because she wrote something she didn’t like. In February, she rudely blew off a WEWS-TV (Cleveland) reporter during the Seville, Ohio. box opening who had clearly done her homework. Oh, the temerity to ask uncomfortable questions. Not surprisingly, Mrs. Kelsey went all hissy on her. On camera. On TV. Posted on the internet.

Hicks, (not affiliated with SHHBB) a citizen journalist and political watchdog in Clermont County. east of Cincinnati, has done a tremendous job of clawing into Mrs Kelsey’s craw since in 2022 after he ran across his local baby box in Union Township and discovered something hinky about funding, fire station staffing, and box maintenance. As a result of his meticulous research, he found that his local box keeper, besides playing with public money was acutely out of compliance with Ohio law. He got the box shut down. He also found what seemed to be non-compliance at several other box sites. Due to Hicks’ work, including testifying before an Ohio Public Health Advisory Board hearing, 2 locations, (here and here), were closed. Other sites were investigated. The problems Hicks exposed in turn greatly slowed the expansion of the program in the state.

Unfortunately, a last-minute amendment based on language in a Kelsey-backed bill to the Ohio SH law that changed staffing rules in her favor and was stuck in committee, was snuck into the 2024-25 Budget Bill without a hearing, opening the floodgates. Eight boxes have been installed this year, and more are scheduled.

During the shutdown Mrs. Kelsey cried Victim! Victim! Victim! and initiated a phone bomb campaign on the Ohio Department of Health. She called every business day for a month demanding a meeting with officials. and asked her fanbase to follow suit. (This apparently is not harassment!) Kelsey was finally granted a meeting with officials but refused to attend because the department refused to obey her new demands made after the protocols were set. Under the Ohio Sunshine Law, I accessed emails between Mrs Kelsey and the department which I couldn’t post due to problems with my old computer. I will do that after NAM/NAAM is over and I have more time. They are fun!

The big take away from this fiasco, which is much more complex that the summary above: the State of Ohio, and presumably other states, have little control over the abandonment boxes.

Hicks is Mrs. Kelsey’s biggest nightmare. He falls into her demographic of Christian, conservative, Republican and pro-life, which must confuse her. Unfortunately for her, he is also a strong advocate of fiscal responsibility and transparency in government no matter who is in charge or how good a project sounds. He does not suffer fools,and knows a rat when he sees it.. I think he’s a bigger nightmare than SSHBBN. and her dreaded trad SH advocates. She fears him. If she didn’t, why would she refuse to answer his perfectly reasonable questions, deflect, name call, run away from him, and claim he threatened to sue her when it was, she who threatened to sue him?
