NAAM Day 29: Hate v Incompetence: My Personal and Political Social Media Challenges

I hate TikTok with a passion. I have 2 accounts: Daily Bastardette and Stop Safe Haven Baby Boxes Now!, but I’ve only made 1 video since I moved to Corpus Christi 3 years ago. My official excuse is that my Kindle no longer works, and I can’t do it on a Paperwhite. This means that I need to use my phone, which is problematic since the “device” does weird things.

The real reason, however, is that it’s a timewaster, both making TTs and reading them. It once took me 65 attempts to make one for DB. I forget what I am saying in the middle. I stammer and I hmm a lot. I look stupid. There is never enough light. No matter where I try to do it, and it looks like I’m in a skid row alley or alone in a bar.

IOW, I don’t have the equipment and know-how to be a real “creator, a word I hate. It reeks of profound pretension. Then there is “influencer,” another word I hate, reeking of self-importance. Michaelangelo, DaVinci, and Picasso were creators; James Madison, Karl Marx, and Martin Luther King, Jr were influencers. Narcissistic TikTokers are neither. (My apologies to my friends on TT that aren’t narcissists.) With this horrible year 2025 coming up, where we will all be shot to hell (figuratively and maybe virtually), I need to bite the bullet (so to speak) and get back on. Are there any YouTubes or websites to teach you not to look stupid?

Currently, I am on Facebook and Twitter. FB a is given, and I refuse to leave Twitter for “the other place.” Twitter is like the old Usenet unmoderated alt hierarchies. A never-ending shitshow of harassment and hate, where people could lose their jobs, or a spouse, or get the cops called on them for something they posted. alt. adoption, aka “the meanest newsgroup on the web” was the birthplace of Bastard Nation and the 2nd wave of the adoptee rights movement. I enjoy the Twitter free-for-all. I like to insult douchebags and seldom get any pushback. (Or maybe they just block me.) And I certainly have plenty of friends and friendlies there, too.

I have been hesitant to add Bluesky to my itinerary. Why? Because various folks tell me it is full of “nice people”…and well…I just don’t want to spend my time with” nice people.” As far as I’m concerned it’s a bunch of “nice people” as a class, (nothing personal) afraid to lock and load, that has turned the US into a clown car of fascists, white Christian nationalists, queerphobics, misogynists, sexual deviants and predators, crooks, embezzlers, fraudsters, grifters, plastic surgery freaks. anti-science nuts, and overall incompetents who probably spent their high school years in detention. All fronted by sleeve-snickering billionaires and foreign tyrants. You know who you are, bitch boys. People thought the Ohio Gang was bad! Ha! At least they weren’t out to obliviate intelligent civilization. And Boy Howdy! It’s too bad that Joe the Plumber died. He’d have been a shoo-in for Treasury Secretary. The old political rules are dead. You can’t win by being reasonable, intelligent, experienced, fact-centered, or nice. How I wish Gore Vidal were still with us

That said, with the TT exception, I’m not stupid, and we need to expand our message as much as possible. I also have to watch out for Bastad Nation, the organization,not ust cranky me. There is a mass exodus from ElonHell for Bluesky or other alternative places. (I made an account at Mastadon a long time ago and couldn’t figure it out. There was a gang of people I knew were there somewhere but I couldn’t find them, even though I appeared to be on a “good server”

I, like many Twitter stalwarts or fools, am losing lots of followers which hurts the adoptee rights movement. Sometime next week, I plan to open accounts on Bluesky for Bastard Nation, DB, and SSHBBN. It won’t hurt. One of my Twitter friends had about 1500 followers. Within 2 days at “the other place,” she had 9,000! BN’s Twitter has for a long time been messed up. I don’t know who set it up. Maybe it was me, but suddenly I couldn’t get in it, and I finally let it go.

I will try to be nice during any Blysky my flights, but it might be difficult. And you will still find me on Twitter.
